My girlfriend bought me this amaaazing coffee mug for my birthday.
How to get sharpie off ceramic mug.
It really is an amazing mug.
This diy works best with cheap dollarstore dollartree in particular ceramic mugs.
Afterwards i realized how much i desecrated it i m so incredibly disappointed.
Please please please please help me.
To make your sharpie mug washable and usable you need to make sure you use an oil based sharpie marker.
To make sharpie mugs start by tracing or drawing your designs directly onto white ceramic mugs using oil based sharpie paint markers.
If you do these two steps and the sharpie still comes off when you wash it in the dishwasher i would recommend hand washing your mugs.
Regular sharpie ink can come off even after baking.
Just apply it to your surface with your favorite stencils and bake for 35 minutes.
Allow the piece to cool completely in the oven.
Next preheat your oven to 425 degrees fahrenheit place the mugs on a flat baking sheet and put the baking sheet in the oven for 20 30 minutes.
Create your own custom mugs with vibrant pops of color best on ceramic porcelain or fine china.
Some other sharpie mug methods say 350 or 375 but the hotter the oven the more the original white glaze will melt and allow your sharpie paint to set in so i like to bake my mugs at 425.
I get all my mugs from the dollar tree and these seem to work well.
But then i started noticing a lot of comments on those sharpie mug photos most of them complaining that while these darling little mugs are indeed the easiest craft ever the marker is not actually wash resistant when applied to ceramic.
Also you may already be doing this but make sure you use oil based sharpies.
By putting the mugs in the cold oven and allowing them to preheat along with the oven you reduce the risk of them cracking from sudden changes in temperature.
You can stay simple and choose one color or be more ambitious and use multiple.
As far as the mug goes i would recommend using an inexpensive mug.
Pick a color to use on your mug.
Choose the right sharpie for mugs.
This is because there is less glaze on them so the paint can adhere better to the ceramic when baked in the oven.
