Using velcro to hang your area rug on the wall is currently the method preferred by many museums including the textile museum. Slide the board into the pocket. Attach the fuzzy side to muslin fabric and then to the back of your rug. Attach the hard side of velcro on a piece of flat wood with the help of a staple gun and stick to the wall.

Fold the sides of the tapestry back and screw. Then guide your needle carefully through the rug fibers. In order to hide the stitching use a thread that is close in color to the rug. Staple the rough side of the velcro tape to the wood.

Get a 2 inch wide velcro. Mount the rug on the wall by aligning both halves of the velcro strip and pressing firmly in place. Measure and adhere the same length of velcro strip to the wood. Velcro tape consists of two separate strips.

Next stretch it out left and right and place additional push pins there. The hook tape and the loop tape. Mount the wood to the wall using a drill and screws and attach the velcro together to hang the rug. Cut the board so it is smaller than the width of the tapestry.

Sew the fuzzy soft side of the velcro to your muslin strip and sew the muslin strip directly to the back of your rug with a whip stitch preferably using a carpet thread that matches a color in your rug. To hang a round rug on the wall you would use push pins or command strips. Mark where the screws will be inserted and drill holes. First mark where you want the rug.

Measure length of the rug you are hanging and go slightly shorter by about 1 8th inch for the length of the wood. Put the top of the rug there and put a push pin or command strip there. This method can be used on heavy weight rugs with success and without causing damage to the rug.
